Objects of Desire: Marble Accessories

mixing in marble

Lately I’ve been loving all things marble.  It’s clean, cool, classic, and the perfect thing to “mix in” with warmer decor.  For those of us who aren’t blessed with marble bathrooms, floors, or countertops (maybe one day…), marble accessories are the perfect alternative.  Check out some of my favorite pieces below, along with ideas about how to make them work in your space.

Objects of Desire: Marble Accessories

pastry slab

I literally just ordered this gorgeous pastry slab for my kitchen (thank you wedding gift card!).  This piece is large and in charge, just what the awful kitchen countertops in our rental need.  This slab of marble will be a permanent fixture on our counter, and, with a little luck, I’m hoping that it will help our awful countertops (seriously. bad.) disappear.  Renters in the same boat?  You need this pastry slab!

side table

This lovely little side table is the perfect addition to entertaining spaces.  It offers a touch of polish and provides an extra place for guests to set drinks on.  Did I mention that it is currently on an amazing sale?

art object

Plant this art object in a bookshelf or on a stack of papers on your desk for instant style.  This is the accessory you never knew you needed!

bookends

I am cravinggg these bookends for my living room bookshelf.  They are my ideal combination of quirky and classic.  I could also see these in a child’s room along side colorful books.

utensil holder

The marble of this utensil holder would look lovely juxtaposed with wood and metal kitchen tools.  I’m starting to think my new pastry slab may need a friend?

boxes

These marble boxes are advertised as “bath accessories” and would certainly make for beautiful bath accessories, but I would use these everywhere… in a bookshelf, on an entry console to stash keys in, on a desk or vanity, everywhere.  They also happen to be on sale, can you tell I’m a sucker for a sale?

tray

This marble tray would be a perfect dresser/nightstand/vanity accessory as a catchall for jewelry, watches, and the like.  I’m loving its simplicity.

marble cleaner

Because after you go crazy purchasing all of these fabulous marble finds, you will need something to clean them with!  I’m a little bit of a freak when it comes to cleaning stone and countertops, the right product is key.

Hope you enjoyed my marble madness!

The Look for Less: Cameron Diaz’s Manhattan Apartment

the look for less!

I pretty much eat, sleep, and breathe interior design, architecture, and all things decoration, so, I plan to feature a lot of that on my blog.  “The Look for Less” is an idea I had for a series of reoccurring posts that offer affordable suggestions and ideas for design, inspired by a celebrity’s apartment.

I’ve been a huge Cameron Diaz fan for a long time now.  I loved (and hated) her in My Best Friend’s Wedding and have had a goal of achieving her hairstyle from The Holiday since it came out (despite having the exact opposite hair characteristics myself).  I first laid eyes on Cameron Diaz’s glam Manhattan apartment (a collaboration with designer Kelly Wearstler) when it graced the cover of Elle Decor in October of 2013.  I recently stumbled upon the issue again (I hoard magazines, it’s kind of a problem), and thought it would be the perfect inspiration for my first “The Look for Less” post.

So, this is Cameron’s living room, pretty lovely right?  Most of what you see here is either custom or vintage, both of which we do a whole lot of at the design firm I work for, but are not necessarily must haves for a beautiful space.  When hunting for pieces inspired by this look, I thought about the room’s glam jewel tones, soft neutrals, pops of yellow, and a little bit of black to ground the space.  I also looked for furniture that was again, glam, with a vintage vibe and a touch of tradition.  The finishing touches are accessories that are organic and tribal.  The layers of style in this room sound odd on paper (or a computer screen), but I love the look and hope you love the look for less…

Valentine’s Day Gift Guide 2015 – Ladies Edition

I am thrilled to be posting my first ever holiday gift guide!  I love gift giving, certainly don’t mind gift receiving, and am an avid gift-guide-googler, so creating gift guides for my blog is a no-brainer!  Guys?  Listen up, because this one is a Valentine’s Day Gift Guide for the ladies.  Unattached ladies (or even attached ladies), I’m an advocate for treating yourself!  We deserve it!  Here are my top picks for a lovely Valentine’s day:

Valentine's Day Gift Guide - Ladies Edition

Faux Flowers

Faux flowers, the gift that keeps on giving.  I once vowed to buy fresh flowers for my apartment once a week, then I remembered I live in New York City on a creative industry salary.  Faux flowers are the answer.  I recently purchased the above arrangement for a client’s entry, I think it would also be lovely on a kitchen table or on a guest bedroom dresser.  This arrangement happens to be on a great sale, but just through tomorrow evening.  Also, don’t cheap out on faux flowers… something that looks real is so worth it!

Diana Broussard Necklace

I’ve had a crush on this Diana Broussard necklace since I saw it on an episode of Real Housewives of New York a season or two ago (I wish I was kidding).  I’m obsessed with this nude color, but you can also find it in a rainbow of colors and two different sizes on Diana’s website.

Floral Pajamas

Because what girl doesn’t love pretty pajamas?

Eat Pretty

I love to decorate with pretty books, I also love cookbooks, and I still haven’t (entirely) abandoned my health and wellness new year’s resolution, so, this book is pretty perfect because its pages are filled with “beauty boosting” recipes.

Creed Spring Flowers Perfume

I have to give my mom the credit for this amazing perfume find, and it’s seriously, compliments-from-strangers amazing.  You know what makes it even more amazing?  It was created as the signature scent for Audrey Hepburn (with whom I’m slightly obsessed) in 1951.  It wasn’t released to the public until 1996.  Side note, this perfume is very fragrant, one splash goes a long way, so the bottles really last.

Monogrammed Pillow

So here’s my theory, newlyweds really love monograms.  I’m not sure how long this lasts, but I’ve almost been married a year (crazy!) and I’ve been meaning to get one of these pillows since the moment I got a new last name.  Even before I got married, I had been meaning to get one of these pillows with my first initial. Head on over to Jonathan Adler where you can scoop up a stocked red pillow or go color crazy customizing.

Hope these goodies make your Valentine’s Day a little sweeter!

I’m Blogging!

Post 1 Title - ringin' in a brand new blogStarting a blog was one of my 2014 resolutions, which, like many new year’s resolutions, never happened!  Now that 2015 is here (crazy how time flies!), I’ve vowed that this year I’m going to make it happen!  In addition to starting a blog, I’ve landed upon a few other goals I want to accomplish this year, and I’m posting them right here, right now to keep myself honest.  These goals will also likely make up some of the content I share with the world on my brand new blog!

Post 1 Content - resolutions

It’s already mid-January (again, crazy how time flies!), so you might be wondering why I am a couple of weeks late in kicking off my resolutions.  2015 has started off completely different than any of my previous years, as I lost a grandfather (whom we call “papa”) on new year’s day.  Needless to say, this year has definitely had a melancholy beginning.  However, my papa lived a life full of fun and adventure, so in honor of him, I dedicate this year of blogging and all of the creativity, living, and love that will make up its content to him!  Papa

Fun fact, my papa was an identical twin!  How cute is this baby photo of he and his twin brother?  The second photo is of my papa with myself (out in front), cousins, and sister.  He will be very dearly missed, but always remembered!
